Value of the Moment

Pause now, and experience your present physical, emotional and mental feelings. How do you feel from these perspectives? How are you breathing? What type of physical signals are you feeling (heart rate, relaxed or tense muscles, slow or fast breathing etc.)? How do you address any issues you are feeling now, in this moment?

Many of you hear or read about “staying in the Present”, “living in the moment or the now”, “being Present”. How many actively practice this and personally feel the value of the Present Moment?

Experience the Present, yourself, rather than trying to conceptualize what it means by listening to or reading about other’s experiences. The true value in personal/spiritual development is the active practice; the “now-time” experience. Hearing and reading about the understanding and perspective of others is helpful; however, personal practice is how we feel the true value for ourselves.

So, for a moment, be where you are – experience the present time physically, emotionally and mentally. Feel your energy as it flows in this moment. Through this practical action, we can recognize where we are, acknowledge what it feels like and identify efforts we can engage to address present issues. Be present and feel what is not here now; the past and the future. The past is just that, and the future has not yet occurred. We miss so much of our present moments by worrying, thinking, reliving or planning in the past and future.

Action for You
Try this to begin experiencing the Value of the Moment:

· Focus on your breathing and begin a natural, relaxed breathing pattern
· Consciously exhale, to “clear” your system, and begin a conscious inhale, breathing down to your lower abdomen. Exhale from your lower abdomen and continue this pattern
· Now, that you have focused on your breathing; feel how your energy is flowing physically, mentally and emotionally
· Do you feel relaxed or tense, do you feel comfort or discomfort?
· Are you thinking about present issues or are you worrying about the past or creating fears about the future?
· Does your emotional state reflect present issues or are you reflecting on past events or projecting your feelings to future, non-existent events?
· Be conscious of your breathing
· Ask yourself, “What do I feel now, what issues are present in this moment?”
· Recognize where you are, presently;
· Acknowledge where you are, presently;
· Actively engage with issues that require your present attention – accept the challenge(s) of the moment and work through it in a present flow of energy

Practice this, regularly, to help you engage in the Moment, to experience life in a connected, holistic manner.

The Value of the Moment is the experience and conscious awareness of where you are in the “now-time” and the opportunity to engage in activity to influence our lives while being Present.

Do You Practice Conscious Breathing?

. . . I know, we don’t usually “think” about breathing – we just do it automatically. That’s actually my point. We typically inhale and exhale as needed, it doesn’t require much consciousness.

An essential element of healthy energy flow is the practice of conscious breathing. We all know that we inhale needed oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Our breathing also facilitates the flow of essential life energy to our systems. As we exhale, we emit carbon dioxide, toxins and displaced energy. Our inhale takes in oxygen and life energy. Since we are often unaware of our breathing pattern, we pass up the opportunity to adequately supply our system with essential life energy through “unconscious”, shallow breathing.

As you read this, try some conscious breathing. Begin by exhaling from your mouth, fully, from the area just beneath your navel; the hara. Now, inhale deeply through your nose, feeling the energy move down to your hara and be conscious of the area “filling up” with energy. As you exhale this time, feel the energy rise from your hara, moving through your internal organs, down your arms and out your hands, as well as out your mouth. It may take a few times to feel the energy as I describe it, but your system will feel the difference.

This conscious breathing pattern enables you to take in more life energy with the oxygen, to benefit your internal organs and supply your hara with greater strength. The hara is considered to be the seat of our energy, our center point, or point of balance. It is the reservoir for our life energy. Consequently, the more we practice conscious breathing, the greater our reservoir of life energy and capacity to focus and ground ourselves. We empower ourselves to be “present” and resist stress and imbalance.

Try it throughout your day . . . it can only help.

What is Ki?

Ki is the Japanese word for energy or life force. Energy flows throughout the Universe in naturally fluid and vibrant patterns for well-being. This energy is vital to our mind, body and spirit wellness.

We can learn to feel and work with this energy for our own well-being through conscious breathing, meditational techniques and engaging in energy alignment through education and/or working with a practitioner.

Self-responsibility empowers us to achieve knowledge and understanding in working with Ki for wellness. Achieving balance and well-being is a path for individuals to actively follow for harmony and wellness of mind, body and spirit.
